Terskey Alatau (also known as Terskey Ala-Too) is one of the principal mountain ranges of the Tian Shan system in eastern Kyrgyzstan. It stretches along the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, forming a dramatic natural barrier between the lake basin and the high alpine interior. The range is characterized by sharp ridges, deep valleys, extensive glaciers, and some of the most famous trekking destinations in Kyrgyzstan, including Ala-Kul Lake, Altyn-Arashan, Jeti-Oguz Peaks, and Ak-Suu Traverse routes. Terskey Alatau plays a crucial role in the region’s climate and hydrology, feeding rivers that flow into Issyk-Kul Lake and supporting diverse ecosystems from spruce forests to high-altitude glaciers. The mountains are widely used for trekking, horseback expeditions, mountaineering, and eco-tourism, offering some of the most scenic and varied landscapes in Central Asia.
