Issyk-Ata Hot Springs are located in the Issyk-Ata Gorge on the northern slopes of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too mountains, about 60 km from Bishkek. The area is one of the oldest known balneological (healing water) sites in Central Asia. Natural mineral springs emerge from the mountain rocks, with temperatures typically ranging from 38°C to over 50°C, depending on the source. The hot springs are part of a larger valley ecosystem that includes spruce forests, alpine herbs, and the Issyk-Ata River, which flows down into the Chui Valley. The site also includes waterfalls and hiking trails that lead deeper into the gorge. During the Soviet period, a large sanatorium complex was built here, turning Issyk-Ata into one of the key health resorts of the region. The area is still used today for wellness tourism, combining natural mineral baths with mountain air and short hiking routes.
