Semenov Gorge (also spelled Semyonov) stretches deep into the Kungey Ala-Too mountain range, about 40 km east of Cholpon-Ata. The gorge is named after the Russian explorer Pyotr Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky, who studied the region in the 19th century. The valley is known for its wide alpine pastures (jailoo), crystal-clear rivers, dense spruce forests, and several high-altitude lakes. During summer, nomadic families set up yurts in the pastures, creating an authentic cultural atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy: Scenic hiking trails through forests and meadows Trekking to alpine lakes at higher elevations Horseback riding across traditional pastures Camping in peaceful natural surroundings Staying in yurts and experiencing nomadic life Photography of mountain landscapes and wildlife Semenov Gorge is often visited together with nearby Grigoriev Gorge for a full-day nature excursion.
