Kungey Alatau is a prominent mountain range located north of Lake Issyk-Kul, directly opposite the Terskey Alatau range. Together, these two ranges frame the Issyk-Kul basin, creating one of the most dramatic mountain-lake landscapes in Central Asia. Kungey Alatau features deep gorges, dense conifer forests, alpine meadows, and glacial peaks reaching nearly 5,000 meters. The range is less visited compared to Terskey Alatau, making it ideal for quieter trekking and exploration. The mountains feed rivers that flow into Issyk-Kul and the Chu Valley. The region includes important trekking areas such as Chong-Kemin Valley, Kegeti Gorge, and other lesser-known alpine routes.
