Karakol Gorge is a deep mountain valley located south of Karakol city in the Issyk-Kul region. It is one of the main access routes into the Terskey Ala-Too mountains and serves as a starting point for several famous trekking routes. The gorge is covered with dense Tien Shan spruce forests, alpine meadows, and fast-flowing rivers fed by glaciers higher in the mountains. It gradually rises into high-altitude terrain leading toward lakes, passes, and glacier zones. Karakol Gorge is also an important gateway for multi-day treks such as the Ala-Kul Route and Ak-Suu Traverse, making it one of the most important trekking corridors in Kyrgyzstan.
