Jeti-Oguz River originates in the high Terskey Ala-Too mountains and flows northward through one of Kyrgyzstan’s most famous natural landmarks—the Jeti-Oguz Gorge. The river is primarily fed by glaciers and seasonal snowmelt, making it strongest in late spring and summer. As it descends, the river cuts through striking red sandstone cliffs that form the iconic “Seven Bulls” rock formation and the nearby “Broken Heart” rock. These formations are among the most photographed landscapes in Kyrgyzstan. The upper parts of the river are rugged and alpine, while the middle valley opens into forested slopes and meadows used for seasonal grazing. The river eventually connects with larger water systems in the Issyk-Kul basin. Jeti-Oguz River also plays an important role in local ecosystems and supports trekking routes toward high mountain pastures and glacier zones.
