🇰🇬 Kyrgyzstan
Boom Gorge is one of the most important natural corridors in Kyrgyzstan, cutting through the mountain barrier between the Kyrgyz Ala-Too and Kyungey Ala-Too ranges. The gorge is carved by the Chu River, which flows northward from the Issyk-Kul basin into the Chui Valley. The canyon is approximately 30 km long and forms the only major low-elevation passage connecting Bishkek with Lake Issyk-Kul. Because of this, the A365 highway and the Bishkek–Balykchy railway both pass directly through it, making it one of the most heavily used transport routes in the country. The landscape of Boom Gorge is strikingly diverse: narrow rocky canyon sections, red and orange sandstone formations, and wider river valleys closer to Issyk-Kul. The area is also known for its geological formations and erosion-carved cliffs that create dramatic scenery along the road. One of the most famous nearby attractions is Konorchek Canyon, accessible from within the gorge and known for its maze-like red rock formations.
