Barskoon River originates in the high glaciers of the Terskey Ala-Too mountains and flows northward toward Lake Issyk-Kul. Along its course, it forms the famous Barskoon Gorge, one of the most scenic valleys in southern Issyk-Kul. The river is fed by snow and glacier melt, making it strongest during late spring and summer. In its upper reaches, it passes through rocky alpine terrain near the Arabel Plateau, while the middle section is known for dense spruce forests, meadows, and powerful waterfalls. Barskoon River is also historically significant, as it lies along ancient Silk Road routes that connected Issyk-Kul with the inner Tian Shan. Today, it remains an important ecological corridor and a key attraction for travelers exploring the southern shore of the lake.
