Chon-Aksuu River is one of the primary watercourses of the Ak-Suu river system in eastern Kyrgyzstan. It originates from glaciers and permanent snowfields in the high Terskey Ala-Too mountains and flows through deep alpine valleys before reaching lower forested zones near Karakol. In its upper sections, the river is powerful, fast, and deeply carved into steep granite and glacial terrain. It is fed by multiple tributaries, including smaller streams from surrounding valleys and glaciers. As it descends, it passes through spruce forests, alpine meadows, and traditional pasturelands. The river plays a key role in the hydrology of the Ak-Suu basin, contributing to irrigation, ecosystems, and trekking routes in one of Kyrgyzstan’s most important mountain regions. It is also closely connected to popular trekking areas such as Altyn Arashan and Karakol Gorge.
