The Ala-Kul Trek Route is one of the most iconic hiking experiences in Kyrgyzstan, located in the Terskey Ala-Too range south of Karakol. The trail connects forested valleys, alpine meadows, glacier-fed rivers, and high mountain terrain before reaching the spectacular Ala-Kul Lake. Ala-Kul Lake Trek Route typically takes 2–3 days and includes a major mountain pass at about 3,860 meters, which is the most challenging section of the journey. The route usually starts from Karakol Valley and passes through or connects with Altyn-Arashan hot springs before reaching the lake. The trail is well-established but physically demanding, with steep climbs, loose scree sections, and rapidly changing weather conditions. Despite this, it remains one of the most popular trekking routes in Central Asia due to its dramatic scenery and accessibility from Karakol.
